The Harbour Capital Chorus is Wellington’s premier men’s Barbershop Chorus and the NZABS 5th placed Chorus for 2007. Our very own "Fusion" quartet was placed third in the 2007 NZABS Quartet Competition. We all enjoy singing in that special form of a-cappella music called “Barbershop”.
What is Barbershop? Technically speaking, Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied singing with three voices harmonising to the melody. The lead usually sings the melody, with the tenor harmonising above the lead. The bass sings the lowest harmonising notes and the baritone provides in-between notes, either above or below the lead to make chords (specifically, dominant-type or "Barbershop" sevenths) that give Barbershop its distinctive, "full" sound.
