The Harbour Capital Chorus was the NZABS
6th placed Chorus for
2010. We congratulate the Vocal FX Chorus for placing 1st.
In the 2010 NZABS Quartet Competition, congratulations to
Musical Island Boys
for placing 1st, Quartertone
for placing 2nd and to Pacific Flavours for placing 4th. It was nearly a
Wellington based clean-sweep in the quartet competition.
We all enjoy singing in that
special form of a-cappella music called “Barbershop”.
What is Barbershop?
Technically speaking, Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied singing
with three voices harmonising to the melody. The lead usually sings the melody,
with the tenor harmonising above the lead. The bass sings the lowest harmonising
notes and the baritone provides in-between notes, either above or below the lead
to make chords (specifically, dominant-type or "Barbershop" sevenths)
that give Barbershop its distinctive, "full" sound.
